Foundation

Every successful software platform is built on solid engineering fundamentals. Throughout my career, I have remained a hands-on engineer, working across the full application stack to design, develop, maintain, and improve business-critical systems. My strongest experience is centred around C#, ASP.NET Core, SQL Server, REST APIs, Angular, and modern frontend development, delivering solutions that are secure, maintainable, and designed for long-term evolution rather than short-term fixes. Over the past 15+ years I have worked on enterprise platforms across legal services, financial services, healthcare, property development, SaaS products, and digital agencies. This breadth of experience has reinforced the importance of writing clean, understandable code, applying sound engineering principles, and building software that other developers can confidently maintain and extend. Rather than chasing every new framework, I focus on developing strong engineering fundamentals that remain valuable regardless of technology changes. I believe good software begins with understanding the business problem, designing clear solutions, and writing code that is simple, reliable, and maintainable.

Cloud & Data

Modern enterprise software extends far beyond writing code. It requires reliable cloud infrastructure, well-designed databases, secure data management, and systems that can scale as organisations grow. Throughout my career I have worked extensively with Microsoft Azure and SQL Server to build, deploy, and support business-critical applications across legal, financial, and enterprise environments. My commercial experience includes designing and developing cloud-hosted applications using Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Blob Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure DevOps, and SQL Server. These technologies have enabled me to build scalable APIs, automate business processes, support asynchronous workflows, and maintain reliable production environments. SQL Server has been a core part of my career for over 15 years. I have written complex stored procedures, optimised queries, designed relational databases, investigated production performance issues, and supported transactional systems where reliability, accuracy, and performance were essential. My focus has always been on creating data solutions that are maintainable, efficient, and aligned with real business requirements. More recently, I have continued expanding my cloud expertise through personal projects, exploring cloud-native architecture, Azure services, scalable application design, and modern deployment practices. I believe cloud technologies should simplify software delivery and improve operational reliability, rather than introduce unnecessary complexity.

Architecture

Good architecture is not about applying the latest design pattern or making systems unnecessarily complex. Throughout my career, I have learned that successful software is built around business requirements, maintainability, and the ability to evolve as organisations grow. Working across financial services, legal platforms, healthcare systems, SaaS products, and enterprise applications has given me practical experience designing solutions that balance simplicity, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability. Rather than pursuing architecture for its own sake, I focus on choosing approaches that help teams deliver software more effectively while reducing technical debt and operational risk. My experience includes applying architectural principles such as Clean Architecture, CQRS, dependency injection, layered application design, modular development, REST API design, and domain-driven thinking where they add genuine value. I have also contributed to modernising legacy applications, improving SDLC processes, introducing reusable components, and helping evolve monolithic systems into more modular and scalable solutions. Outside of commercial projects, I continue to explore modern architectural approaches through my enterprise portfolio, using real-world business domains to deepen my understanding of workflow-driven systems, cloud-native design, integration patterns, and scalable application development.

Messaging & Integration

Modern enterprise applications rarely operate in isolation. They need to exchange information, trigger background processing, integrate with external services, and support business workflows without impacting the user experience. Although much of my commercial work has centred around API-driven systems, I have developed a strong understanding of messaging and asynchronous communication through both practical implementation in personal projects and continuous professional development. As part of building my enterprise portfolio, I have implemented concepts such as Azure Service Bus, background processing, event-driven workflows, notifications, scheduled tasks, and loosely coupled application design. These projects have allowed me to explore how messaging improves scalability, reliability, and maintainability while modelling realistic business scenarios across financial services, healthcare, legal operations, and property development platforms. My commercial experience has reinforced the importance of designing systems that communicate cleanly through well-defined APIs and business workflows. Building on that foundation, I continue to expand my understanding of modern messaging patterns, cloud integrations, and distributed application design so I can apply these approaches where they deliver genuine business value.

Security

Security has been a fundamental part of every enterprise application I have worked on throughout my career. Whether developing financial platforms, legal practice management systems, or healthcare applications, protecting sensitive data and ensuring secure access has always been an essential part of delivering reliable software. My commercial experience includes implementing authentication, role-based access control, authorization, secure REST APIs, data validation, audit logging, and user permission models across business-critical applications. I have worked with systems supporting multiple user types, ensuring that users only have access to the information and functionality appropriate to their role. I believe security should be considered from the beginning of a project rather than added later. Good application security comes from clear architecture, secure coding practices, input validation, protecting sensitive information, and understanding how users interact with the system. Throughout both my commercial work and personal projects, I continue to strengthen my understanding of modern identity management, secure cloud development, and enterprise security best practices.

DevOps

Writing quality software is only part of delivering successful applications. Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in the processes that take software from development through testing, deployment, and into production. Working closely with development teams, testers, operations, and stakeholders has given me a practical understanding of how good DevOps practices improve software quality, reliability, and delivery. My commercial experience includes working with Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, source control strategies, release management, cloud deployments, IIS hosting, and production support. I have contributed to improving development workflows, participating in release planning, supporting deployment activities, and helping refine SDLC processes to enable more consistent and predictable software delivery. Rather than viewing DevOps as a separate discipline, I see it as an extension of good software engineering. Developers should understand how their applications are deployed, monitored, maintained, and supported in production. This mindset has helped me build software that is easier to release, troubleshoot, and evolve over time. Through my personal projects, I continue to expand my knowledge of modern DevOps practices, cloud deployment strategies, automation, and infrastructure concepts, ensuring I remain aligned with the way modern engineering teams deliver software.

Observability

Building software is only part of the job. Understanding how it performs in production, identifying issues quickly, and maintaining reliable systems are equally important. Throughout my career, I have supported business-critical applications where stability, performance, and operational visibility were essential to day-to-day business operations. My commercial experience includes investigating production issues, analysing application behaviour, reviewing logs, troubleshooting performance problems, supporting users, and identifying root causes of technical issues. I have worked with Azure Application Insights, logging frameworks, SQL Server analysis, diagnostics, and monitoring tools to help resolve incidents and improve overall system reliability. Working on enterprise systems has taught me that good observability starts during development. Clear logging, meaningful error handling, health monitoring, and well-designed diagnostics make applications easier to support, reduce downtime, and help development teams resolve issues more efficiently. As I continue building enterprise platforms through my portfolio projects, I actively explore modern observability practices, structured logging, distributed tracing concepts, health checks, and cloud monitoring approaches to strengthen my understanding of production-ready software.

Testing

Delivering reliable software is about much more than fixing bugs at the end of a project. Throughout my career, I have viewed testing as a continuous part of the software development lifecycle, helping ensure applications remain stable, maintainable, and fit for real business use. My commercial experience includes writing testable code, supporting QA teams, performing functional testing, investigating production defects, validating business requirements, conducting code reviews, and resolving issues before they reach production. Working on business-critical platforms has reinforced the importance of understanding both the technical implementation and the business processes behind every feature. I have practical experience with unit testing frameworks and continue to apply testing principles throughout both commercial and personal projects. My focus is on building software that is easier to verify, easier to maintain, and less likely to introduce regressions as applications evolve. Rather than treating testing as a separate activity, I believe quality should be built into every stage of development — from technical design and implementation through to deployment and production support.

System Design

For me, system design starts with understanding the business rather than the technology. Before thinking about databases, APIs, or cloud services, I focus on how people work, the problems they are trying to solve, and how software can support those operational processes effectively. Throughout my career, I have helped design and build enterprise applications across financial services, legal operations, healthcare, property development, and SaaS platforms. These systems have involved complex business workflows, multiple user roles, approvals, reporting, notifications, integrations, security, dashboards, and large volumes of operational data. Working across these different industries has taught me that every successful system is ultimately built around people and business processes. My experience includes designing application architecture, database structures, REST APIs, business workflows, user permissions, reporting solutions, and frontend experiences that work together as a complete platform. I enjoy breaking down complex requirements into manageable components that are straightforward to develop, maintain, and extend as business needs evolve. Many of my personal projects have been created specifically to strengthen my system design skills. Rather than building isolated features, I design complete enterprise platforms that model realistic organisations, operational workflows, and business challenges. These projects allow me to explore architectural decisions, scalability, cloud technologies, integration patterns, and modern engineering practices while remaining hands-on throughout the development process.

Technical Leadership

For me, technical leadership is not about job titles or managing people — it is about helping teams build better software. Throughout my career, I have naturally taken on responsibilities beyond writing code, supporting developers, contributing to technical decisions, and helping teams deliver complex software successfully. As a Senior Engineer and Technical Lead, I have remained actively involved in hands-on development while mentoring junior developers, conducting code reviews, supporting solution design, improving engineering practices, and helping break down complex business requirements into achievable technical solutions. I enjoy creating an environment where developers can share ideas, ask questions, and grow their confidence while maintaining high engineering standards. Working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA teams, stakeholders, and operational users has taught me that successful software delivery depends as much on communication as it does on technical ability. I have regularly contributed to sprint planning, technical discussions, estimation, release planning, SDLC improvements, and architecture conversations, helping bridge the gap between business objectives and technical implementation. I believe the best technical leaders remain hands-on. Staying close to the code helps me better understand the challenges facing the team, provide practical guidance, make informed technical decisions, and lead by example rather than by authority.

My Full Stack Approach

Throughout my career, my strongest expertise has naturally developed on the backend, where I have spent many years designing enterprise applications, building REST APIs, developing SQL Server solutions, implementing business logic, and solving complex operational problems. At the same time, modern software development rarely happens in isolation. I have worked extensively across the full application stack using Angular, React, Blazor, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, developing user interfaces, integrating APIs, fixing production issues, and delivering complete business features from database to browser. I don't consider myself a UI designer or a frontend specialist, and I have enormous respect for engineers who dedicate their careers to frontend architecture, accessibility, animations, and user experience. My strength lies in understanding how the entire application works, navigating frontend codebases confidently, and delivering the functionality that the business requires. Over the past year, I have further strengthened my frontend capability by building multiple enterprise applications using Angular, React, and Blazor. Combined with modern AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude, Kiro, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT, I can rapidly understand unfamiliar codebases, explore implementation options, and deliver high-quality features while maintaining sound engineering principles. For me, being a Full Stack Engineer doesn't mean knowing every framework in exhaustive detail. It means understanding how every part of the application works together, collaborating effectively across the stack, and being able to deliver complete, production-ready solutions that solve real business problems.
